The women in my family seem to have a gene that lies dormant until the age of 50.  At that point, something kicks in and we must travel. I saw this happen in my mother but, at the time, never expected I would find myself with the itch to hit the road (sadly, my grandmother passed away at 49 - which I guess you could argue is a way of travelling, especially given the limited options for women at that time).

And then I turned 50! Suddenly in the back of my mind far off places were calling my name.  I found myself risking whiplash as I drove past RV sales lots and lingering over pictures of rock formations, cliff dwellings and national parks.

So now I am hitting the road taking my knowledge of health, nutrition and functional medicine with me to hopefully educate and help as many people as I can. I'll be posting my adventures, thoughts on wellness, nutrition tips and travel schedule here.  Hopefully, you will find it entertaining and informative! Charleston, South Carolina

Posted by NK ODell on Thursday, March 24, 2011, In : On The Road

Through a series of scheduling malfunctions I have spent several weeks more than I anticipated in the Charleston area. Sounds like a travel slogan: Came for a week, stayed forever. Although I will have the benefit of moving on eventually, I am really enjoying this area. I like the architecture of the downtown area, the big trees with streams of moss hanging down, the Ashley River and the marina.

Boating is really big in Charleston. With lots of rivers, islands and inlets it makes me wish I h...

Another Roadside Attraction

Posted by NK ODell on Monday, March 14, 2011, In : On The Road
As I have stated before, the need for repairs never seems to come at a good time. In some cases, it comes at a very inconvenient time. Like on the side of the highway at 10:30 on a Sunday night. Such was the case when my other tire decided to meet its maker. I try to never travel at night for this exact reason. But I only had 90 miles to go, the last CD of my current book, and probably a little too much caffeine at Starbucks. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I had tried four different p...

Back in the Land of Automotive

Posted by NK ODell on Monday, March 7, 2011, In : On The Road

There was a time in my youth that I was able to perform a fair amount of work on my vehicles. This came from a combination of boyfriends who worked on cars, and the fact that many of my early vehicles required a certain amount of constant maintenance. I had two VW Bugs which even allowed me to swap out a few fenders along the way. Then came the era of catalytic converters, emissions equipment and my love of manicures. My automotive capabilities fell by the wayside.

My traveling lifestyle has r...

Catching Up

Posted by NK ODell on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, In : On The Road

I have been quite negligent in posting and am trying to catch up over the next few weeks. The winter blues continued as I left Kentucky and headed for Tennessee. Spent some time in Nashville, including a stint at the parking garage of the Green Hills Mall while attempting some repairs. You know how it is, just like dominoes, first one thing, then another, then another! Nothing to serious or costly in itself, but added up took a toll on my Amazon savings. Oh well, that's how it goes! Nashville...
