The women in my family seem to have a gene that lies dormant until the age of 50.  At that point, something kicks in and we must travel. I saw this happen in my mother but, at the time, never expected I would find myself with the itch to hit the road (sadly, my grandmother passed away at 49 - which I guess you could argue is a way of travelling, especially given the limited options for women at that time).

And then I turned 50! Suddenly in the back of my mind far off places were calling my name.  I found myself risking whiplash as I drove past RV sales lots and lingering over pictures of rock formations, cliff dwellings and national parks.

So now I am hitting the road taking my knowledge of health, nutrition and functional medicine with me to hopefully educate and help as many people as I can. I'll be posting my adventures, thoughts on wellness, nutrition tips and travel schedule here.  Hopefully, you will find it entertaining and informative! I welcome your comments and feedback – email me at nkodell@nt11.info!

Hitch Itch

Posted by NK ODell on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, In : On The Road
(technically written last month, just now getting posted!)
Currently in Texas (which by the way, is quite green and beautiful in Spring) getting ready to head out to escape the Summer temps. This has been an interesting adventure, merging my little rig with the love of my life's 38 ft Holiday Rambler. And of course we are also a blended family: his dog and my cat. . . . now yours, mine and ours. New tires, house batteries, a new couch/futon a couple of gadgets and gizmos I don't really underst...

Back On The Line

Posted by NK ODell on Sunday, August 28, 2011, In : On The Road

Time is an amazing thing. I left Kentucky in late December last year, travelled throughout the SE for eight months and am now back at Amazon in Kentucky. Oddly, it is like I never left.  I'm in the same space at the same RV park, on the same shift performing the same job function as last year.  This is the closest thing to home I have had in the past year or so and I have to say, provides a bit of a comfort level not usually found on the road. I have neighbors I actually know, a "j-o-b" and r...

When One Door Closes

Posted by NK ODell on Monday, August 8, 2011, In : On The Road
I have wrapped up my time with Eco Drink and demos at Costco and am heading north to Kentucky, Amazon and, hopefully, cooler weather! We are enjoying hotel AC and a soft bed for our last few nights in Wilmington. With highs nearing 100, a heat index of 114 and lows hovering around 80, it is just too hot to boondock at Costco! We're leaving tomorrow after securing my drug test for Amazon, an oil change for Amanda and picking up the last of the Wilmington mail.

I'm sure in a month I'll be swea...

Here Comes the Sun

Posted by NK ODell on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, In : On The Road
One of the major issues I face with life on the road is my sad dependence on technology and by association, electricity. Charging my computer, iPod, cell phone and TV have placed me in more Starbucks than I would like to admit. But the need to fuel both my toys and caffeine habit is most easily accomplished there.

I am overjoyed to have handled (at least to some extent) one of those issues. I recently found and purchased a very portable solar charging system from Goal Zero. This lightweight ...

New Directions

Posted by NK ODell on Sunday, July 24, 2011, In : On The Road
I came to Charleston for a weekend. That was in March. In spite of the heat and humidity, I have come to really like this area. Rivers, beaches, cool architecture, cobblestone streets and a sweet campground only a few miles from downtown combine to make this one of the most convenient places I have found myself. However, after 4 months it's time to move on and I'm a little sad to leave Charleston and many new friends behind.

Now I am making my way back to Kentucky for another season with Am...

Jekyll Island, GA

Posted by NK ODell on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, In : On The Road
After an 18-day Eco Drink roadshow at Sam's Club in Savannah, I am at Jekyll Island, one of the barrier islands off the coast of Georgia! Although I was hoping to see a bit more of Savannah than Sam's parking lot and Starbucks, I have been trying to get down here since hearing about Jekyll Island last fall and just made a beeline as soon as I finished up. It is just as beautiful as I was told and teeming with all sorts of wild life – a deer wandered thru the campground early this morning! M...

Charleston, South Carolina

Posted by NK ODell on Thursday, March 24, 2011, In : On The Road

Through a series of scheduling malfunctions I have spent several weeks more than I anticipated in the Charleston area. Sounds like a travel slogan: Came for a week, stayed forever. Although I will have the benefit of moving on eventually, I am really enjoying this area. I like the architecture of the downtown area, the big trees with streams of moss hanging down, the Ashley River and the marina.

Boating is really big in Charleston. With lots of rivers, islands and inlets it makes me wish I h...

Another Roadside Attraction

Posted by NK ODell on Monday, March 14, 2011, In : On The Road
As I have stated before, the need for repairs never seems to come at a good time. In some cases, it comes at a very inconvenient time. Like on the side of the highway at 10:30 on a Sunday night. Such was the case when my other tire decided to meet its maker. I try to never travel at night for this exact reason. But I only had 90 miles to go, the last CD of my current book, and probably a little too much caffeine at Starbucks. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I had tried four different p...

Back in the Land of Automotive

Posted by NK ODell on Monday, March 7, 2011, In : On The Road

There was a time in my youth that I was able to perform a fair amount of work on my vehicles. This came from a combination of boyfriends who worked on cars, and the fact that many of my early vehicles required a certain amount of constant maintenance. I had two VW Bugs which even allowed me to swap out a few fenders along the way. Then came the era of catalytic converters, emissions equipment and my love of manicures. My automotive capabilities fell by the wayside.

My traveling lifestyle has r...

Catching Up

Posted by NK ODell on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, In : On The Road

I have been quite negligent in posting and am trying to catch up over the next few weeks. The winter blues continued as I left Kentucky and headed for Tennessee. Spent some time in Nashville, including a stint at the parking garage of the Green Hills Mall while attempting some repairs. You know how it is, just like dominoes, first one thing, then another, then another! Nothing to serious or costly in itself, but added up took a toll on my Amazon savings. Oh well, that's how it goes! Nashville...

Giving Thanks

Posted by NK ODell on Friday, November 26, 2010, In : On The Road
Thanksgiving this year was a bittersweet day. It has always been "the" holiday in our family. The one day when I pulled out all the stops and cooked my *** off! A day when, no matter how tough things got, we were able to take some time to appreciate the many blessings we did have, and hold a thought for those who had so much less. And then we ate. And ate, And then ate a bit more. Many years we would take in a movie to break up the feasting.

November 25th, 2010 I am some 1,500 miles away from ...

Maiden Voyage

Posted by NK ODell on Thursday, July 8, 2010, In : On The Road

After several months of local traveling, further downsizing, fine tuning and assuring my friends and family that, yes, I really can live in a 20ft Motorhome, the time has come to make the first long distance trip. Ok, not exactly LONG distance but longer than the 20 mile journeys I have completed so far.

Although several trips had been on the schedule, the unrelenting spring rains of Oregon have kept me pretty much homebound.  There seems no logic to me (at this point) to travel many miles to ...

My Co-Pilot, Mark

Posted by NK ODell on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, In : On The Road

My traveling companion is still adjusting to our new life on the road. In time I'm sure he'll come around, but for the time being I am still the recipient of some pretty scathing looks. But we have been together almost 10 years and I can't imagine taking this journey without him. He originally came to our family from the local shelter after my son (then about 10) decried, "There are no men in this house."  In an attempt to even the score a little bit (he was still out-numbered by me, his sist...

Small Space Survival

Posted by NK ODell on Sunday, April 25, 2010, In : On The Road
It started innocently enough. A comment made to a friend at a time when we were firmly entrenched in 30-year mortgages, kids, cars, credit card debt and all that comes with life. It was out of my mouth before I even knew it: "I remember a time in my life when everything that was near and dear to me fit in my VW bug." A statement that would trigger the need to downsize in a BIG way! I lost the house, cars, debt, kept the kids until it was time for them to move on, still have the cat but years ...

Nutritional Therapy 1:1 Hits The Road!!

There is much excitement in the air! Nutritional Therapy 1:1 is preparing to go mobile June 1st!  I am getting the motorhome in shape, looking at the road map and deciding where to go first.  I am checking with a variety of Destination Resorts & Spas about bringing Nutritional Therapy classes and protocols to them, as well as the RV Spa/Resorts!

Keep checking the blog for updates and details and, of course, if you would like to see NT 1:1 in your area, please let me know!...
